Reproach

This is Reproach. Reproach will follow you home. She embodies the torment of crippling guilt and shame. Not rightful, conscience-originated guilt for things you still can and should make right. She brings up what is long gone, what is supposed to be forgiven, water under the bridge, things you will never be able to change, regrets that can never be reversed. Even little things that you are still embarrassed about that nobody else likely remembers are fair game to Reproach. She will bring back all the memories at once with the full shame of them.

Honestly, this would be the most terrifying power EVER to me. I don't fear death, I don't fear demons, as much as I fear overwhelming, rightful guilt and shame. In a figurative sense, although I've never done anything extraordinarily terrible in my life, I do have to fend off Reproach every day by remembering that these things are water under the bridge and that God said he would wash me white and clean as new snow. He doesn't count my shortcomings against me and neither should I.

Anyway, yes, Reproach is missing a leg and has a few other rather serious physical ailments. It is not that she was injured; that is what kind of creature she is. She isn't suffering. She lives to inflict it. She ended up being a little fluffier and more wolf-looking than I intended, but I needed that fur to show how scraggly she is.

I drew her with a thick ink pen to get that made-of-shadow look and cleaned it up and added the plain background once I scanned it. Umbra-Canis can be several other colors, too, but I felt like Reproach needed to look this way .
